How does Botox® Injections work?

We have lots of small facial muscles in our face. Repeated movement of these muscles contribute to frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead and lip lines. Botox® relaxes these facial muscles, therefore preventing the muscles from repeatedly moving that cause the lined, aged look that occurs as our natural collagen start to depleat. It is also used and licensed for other medical indications, including Hyperhidrosis.

What happens during Botox® treatment?

Are there any side effects?

Whilst side effects of this treatment are rare, patients sometimes experience stiffness in the injected area for a few days. Slight bruising and swelling can also occur. Occasionally, a temporary drooping of the eyelid can occur which may last a few weeks, but will resolve. In very rare cases, patients may have an allergic reaction to the treatment, or others have shown resistance, in that the treatment causes little or no effect on the treated muscles.

Are there patients who should not receive treatment?

Pregnant women, mothers who are nursing, and those who have myasthenia gravis or muscular diseases should not use this treatment. During the initial consultation I will carry out a full medical history to deem whether you are suitable for the treatment.

Do I need to prepare before my Gastric Band adjustment appointment?

Please avoid food and fluids for at least 30 minutes prior to each band adjustment.

Is there any aftercare for my Gastric Band adjustment?

I will provide specialist advice about your post-adjustment diet following the treatment. This typically means going back to fluids for 1-2 days, progressing to a soft diet for 1-2 days, before going back onto normal textures. This allows any swelling to settle.

Will I need time off work for my Gastric Band adjustment?

Gastric band adjustments are straightforward and have no downtime. The area may be slightly tender for a short time after treatment, but not so much that it will require you to take tire time off work.

How long do Dermal Fillers last?

As everyone’s body is different, results will vary from person to person, however Dermal fillers generally last between 6 months and 1 year.

Can Dermal Fillers be removed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, can be quickly dissolved using an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. This acts to disperse hyaluronic acid, speeding up the natural breakdown of the dermal filler. The use of hyaluronidase to remove fillers is off-license, so your practitioner will only go ahead if it is “in the best interest of the patient on the basis of available evidence”.
