Gastric Band adjustments

After gastric band surgery, your band will need adjusting to achieve the level of control that is right for you. The first gastric band adjustment can usually be made five weeks after the original surgery, where the adjustment will involve either adding or removing saline fluid from the band. No downtime is required after a band adjustment.

At consultation I will take a full medical history, assess current diet intake and then advise on the adjustment that is required. A special needle is inserted into the filling port where saline will be added or removed, depending on what is required after consultation. Before leaving the clinic you will be required to drink some fluid comfortably.

After adjustment, you will require to be on fluids for 2 days, sloppy foods for 2 days before going back onto normal textured foods. Adjustments can happen every 4-6 weeks, and a free emergency aspiration service is offered, should the band be too tight in the first week.

It is important to remember that this service is also about adjusting your food and lifestyle change, not just the gastric band.
